Skip the pain from Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, enjoy the relief with North Texas Sinus Center surgery
What No One Will Tell You About Sinus Surgery Recovery
Endoscopic sinus surgery is a proven way of permanently relieving what’s causing your nasal congestion, chronic sinusitis, and other issues. It’s an invasive procedure that includes the removing of bone and tissue from your nose.
What is not shared with most patients before surgery is the painful process of ripping your scabs away during follow-up visits. This process is referred to as debridement. Removing the crusts from surgery is necessary to prevent scar tissue from obstructing air pathways, and it is very painful.
You want relief, but is the pain of surgery and recovery worth it when other options are available?
A question we will help you answer at North Texas Sinus Center.
The Recovery Process: Healing from Sinus Surgery
As with any surgery, your body needs to adapt to change and heal from the cuts made and bone and tissue removed. Recovery often includes the following:
- Pain
- Congestion
- Sinus headaches
- Bleeding
- Scarring
- Scabbing
- Scab-removing procedure (debridement)
- Multiple follow-up appointments
Due to the impact sinus surgery will have on your life, you may need to take 1-2 weeks away from your job. For your sinuses to fully recover and adapt, it may take a month or longer. This may also delay relief that could be achieved from other treatment options.
Debridement - How Scabs are Removed from Your Nose
Endoscopic sinus surgery involves cutting into your nasal tissues and bone. As with a cut, you would get on your arm or foot, scabs form. These scabs in your sinuses prevent airflow.
During an appointment with your ENT, your doctor will use a scope to look into your nasal cavities. After locating where crusts are forming, the doctor will use specialized tweezers to latch onto the crusted scabs and remove them.
The process and location of the scabs, being in a highly sensitive part of your body, make this a painful procedure.
